Ballytruckle Shamrock and Katherine Martin are Showhunter Champions

""

In January 2012 at the New Year Showhunter and Showjumping Show at Woodhill Sands Katherine Martin rode Ballytruckle Shamrock with lovely flowing lines and made full use of the tight space on the grass in the rain to score an incredible 95% and win the Championship class for the Category C.
The showhunter judge said it was the best showhunter round she had ever judged! Well done Katherine and well done Shammie.

Rafferty's on the payroll

We have just started under saddle B. Rafferty, (Mill Creek Valiant X Redeemable) a five year old 15-2hh Welsh cob X tb. He is such a gentleman, he is so intelligent, very quick to learn. Steve is having a great time with Rafferty.

Ballytruckle Shamrock and Katherine Martin are our new Showhunter combination

Katherine Martin, a 13 yo from Bombay, has taken the catch ride we offered her on Shamrock and going places with it. At their first Showhunter Show together they came 2nd and 3rd in the registered Cat C classes at Woodhill Sands on Labour Monday with scores of 83 and 80% under judge Sue Widdett.

Ballytruckle Rosheen, by Mill Creek Valiant X Rookley Rose

Roro is a Welsh cob X tb filly, rising 5yo, she is a fabulous looking filly, she is 148cm tall on my measuring stick. She has the same nature as her full brother B. Riley, very bold and clever. She has fantastic blood from her Thoroughbred side being out of Rookley Rose who is related to Snap. Snap won the Auckland Cup, Eulogy, Oaks and many other races as a 2 & 3 yo filly, she was the foundation mare for the Dowager Duchess of Bedfords Tb stud Bloomsbury.

As a nine month old filly I saw Roro clear a 1-15m gate. Currently in foal to Beau.

Fun for all the family

B. Sally Gap's Showhunter Style

Sally Gap is a Welsh cob X tb - she is only just 7 yo, and is by Mill Creek Valiant out of Tb mare Star who was by Indian Ore out of a Blazing Keel mare.

In January 2011 at the World Cup Festival at Woodhill Sands I was able to sit at a fabulous vantage point and observe her doing a training round ridden by our son, 14yo Conor West.

Fun for the family last weekend on our cobs

The weekend started at Tuakau Adult Riding Club grounds with Conor riding 7 yo Welsh cob X tb B. Shamrock and Steve on the full sister 6 yo B. Sally Gap. The lads did a round of showjumping at 60cm, I know that is small but they never jump SJ courses so its a challenge not to have a ground line and to have bright vibrant jumps. The course was very inviting and the horses and riders really enjoyed it. Then they went on to the Cross country course and enjoyed many of the jumps on offer, palisades, water, tyres, tiger traps, roll tops and coops.

Welsh cob X at National Equestrian Centre- Taupo

Rocky aka "Portmeirion" is by Mill Creek Valiant out of Sabrina ( a black pony mare) as a 4 yo ridden by 12 yo Katherine.

Janet wrote, "This was Rocket’s first cross country schooling and what a STAR! We went with no expectations except to give him some new experiences and came away having had a fabulously successful time.

The first photo of Katherine riding him bareback was the first afternoon we arrived – he took the new environment in his stride.

Red Rupert - Champion at Kaikohe A&P

Red Rupert is a 4yo 15.2hh chestnut Welsh cob X Standard bred owned by Emma Wiggins from his first breath to this Championship. Emma has worked hard to get him to this level with many hours spent trotting him harnessed in her gorgeous large wheeled gig, around the picturesque rural roads of Waimate North.

He is by Mill Creek Valiant and is out of bay trotter mare Sasha

Emma and Rupert won 3 firsts, 3 seconds and went Overall Champion Driven. Congratulations from us all.
