Large Welsh Partbred (Welsh Cob x Thoroughbred)

Horse of the Year 2010- here we come!

Recently Conor West and Ballytruckle Shamrock qualified for Horse of the Year to be held in Hastings in March 2010. Shammy is a homebred Welsh cob X tb mare, 7yo, 146cm. She is a brilliant schoolmaster for our 13 yo son who took the ride on her in March 2009. Shammy is by our elderly Welsh cob stallion MillCreek Valiant and is out of an unregistered Thoroughbred mare "Star" by Indian Ore (US) out of Blazing Star (Blazing Keel (US).

Kerikeri Outing for Millcreek Valiant progeny

One weekend in November 2009 we travelled to Kerirkeri with full sisters Tb welsh cob crosses Ballytruckle Shamrock and Ballytruckle Sally Gap on board to compete in the Showhunter registered and training rings.

Present on the day was another of Mill Creek Valiants progeny Red Rupert, owned by Emma Wiggins of Waimate North. He is out of a standard bred mare and is trained for harness and ridden. He has just started in the Showhunter training ring and from his clean action and laconic attitude he should do very well.

As a result of Nelson damaging his eye severly in late January I have not been able to venture far from home. Currently in early April he is still stabled daily and has numerous ointments and powders administered throughout the day. Subsequently the summer competitions came tyo an end for me and Shamrock as Steve and I cared for Nelson- I feel like my right hand has been cut off as I have always found him to be invaluable with starting the young horses. I have to rethink some of my strategies.

Ballytruckle Shamrock and Hannah competed at the Woodhill Sands 2 * SJ and SH Show late Nov 2008. They were placed fourth in the Welcome Hunter Showhunter 80cm class and won the Category C Flat Class. According to bystanders the entries were smaller than previous years but competition was nonetheless very strong.

Ballytruckle Rafferty- Welsh cob X Tb ehm 15.2hh

A fantastic Welsh Cob X Tb gelding-born Sept 06-he will mature at 15-2hh or 15-3hh and will have bone to boot. A delight to have around he is very friendly and calm. Takes everything in his stride.

He is out of the fabulous Tb mare Redeemable- she is by Red Glow(UK) who is reputed to have been a lovely looking horse. Redeemable is from a long line of race winning mares. She boasts Nijinsky and Exbury in her pedigree. Redeemable had a wet track specialist son named Prince Petrus who was nominated for the NZDerby for his 6th race.
