NI Showhunter Championships and Waitemata Showhunter Derby

Lynette Jackson rode Ballytruckle Riley in 2 rounds to come second place at the North Island Showhunter Championships 1.10m Championship class held at Woodhill Sands in February 2013. The pair were second to professional rider Phillip Steiner on Tequila Sunrise. We are so proud of Riley and are thrilled with how Lynette has made him into such an enjoyable ride. He is our schoolmaster now.

BOP Championship Show

Last weekend, we took three horses down to Taupo to compete in the BOP Championship Show.

Lynette Jackson on Ballytruckle Riley is having a nice time collecting ribbons and points for Horse of the Year. This combination were placed in several Hack classes and ended with getting a third placing so they are improving each time they enter the ring. Lynette has put many hours training into Riley and its beginning to show.

Jumping Champion of Senior Novice ring at Bombay Pony Club ORD

Niamh had a busy Sunday last weekend - on Ballytruckle Shamrock she rode two Level 1 tests at Auckland Manukau Dressage Group and scored better than the last time she rode there earlier in the month. She has been working on the pony being calm and going in self carriage. Now we need to polish her accuracy, square halt and canter work. Louisa Hill walked by so we introduced ourselves and had a chat about her wonderful riding at the Olympics. She complemented Niamh on her beautiful pony and advised her to "stay on ponies cos they rock!".

Woodhill Sands 1* Show

In the weekend Niamh and B. Shamrock really started to get their partnership going well. Niamh and Shammy collected four ribbons from eight rounds and got 9 points for HOY qualification.

I was thrilled to watch them both enjoying their classes and striving to do better, they were a picture of concentration and looked really super together.!!

North Island Secondary School Showhunter Championships

Held in winter at St Peters College in Cambridge, ACG Strathallan College sent a team of 4 riders. In order of rider age they were Conor West on Ballytruckle Sally Gap, Bridget van Gessel on Reel NZ Safari, Julia Nicholson on Gold Fever and Niamh West on Ballytruckle Shamrock.

Rafferty wins his first class

Ballytruckle Rafferty, 5yo Welsh cob X Tb gelding, by Mill Creek Valiant out of Redeemable (Red Glow) has been ridden since November 2011. He has always loved being ridden, very cruisey and friendly. He went to a local Ribbon Day and the first class he went into he won!!

Best paced and Mannered. We also think Riff Raff is pretty cool, he has a rocking horse canter and Steve holds the reins between 2 fingers so light is the contact. You could ride this fellow with cotton thread for reins- he is so good in the mouth.

Soaring isn't just for the birds

"Awesome day" was Conor's summing up of a morning competing in the Showhunter Hack ring at Woodhill Sands 3* SJ/SH Show this February. He was riding B. Sally Gap, a 8yo Welsh cob X tb mare 15.1hh. He said he was soaring over the bigger jumps, they started in the training and finished on the 1.05m. They got a 3rd placing in a class of 25 with a score of 79%.

Ballytruckle Shamrock and Katherine Martin are Showhunter Champions

""

In January 2012 at the New Year Showhunter and Showjumping Show at Woodhill Sands Katherine Martin rode Ballytruckle Shamrock with lovely flowing lines and made full use of the tight space on the grass in the rain to score an incredible 95% and win the Championship class for the Category C.
The showhunter judge said it was the best showhunter round she had ever judged! Well done Katherine and well done Shammie.

Steve unbeaten in the Bay of Islands

Steve rode B. Sally Gap to four wins at the Bay of Islands A&P Showhunter Lowhunter classes on the 13th November 2011. It was Steves first time competing in registered Showhunter and Sallys second time in the registered hack ring.

He came away with a great big grin and many ideas about what he will do next with his awesome Welsh cob X tb mare.
